Way back in 2011, Sarah & Tom met as apprentices working together at the same company. A few years later, on the day of their 5 year anniversary, Tom popped the question! They were actually in Las Vegas at the time seeing Sarah’s favourite band, Guns N’ Roses, on top of the Stratosphere (not jealous at all guys). Sarah was definitely not expecting Tom’s proposal, and ended up crying every time she told the story for months afterwards – we’re not surprised!
We actually had mutual friends in common with Sarah & Tom, Rob & Katie, whose wedding we’d previously photographed. Rob also ended up shooting video on Sarah & Tom’s big day! As soon as we met them, we knew straight away that their wedding was going to be well thought out and stylish. During their engagement shoot, it became apparent pretty quickly how great they were going to be to work with – they were complete naturals in front of the camera (even if they would never claim it themselves!)
Sarah & Tom knew that they wanted a traditional vibe to their day, but wanted to keep things fresh and modern too. For them, the day was all about bringing their two families together in one huge celebration. They wanted to avoid any surprises, and didn’t want to include anything too gimmicky, either.
The whole day, from our perspective, turned out super classy. While Tom spent the morning photography the bridal preparations, Ant photographed the guys getting ready. They’d rented out an Airbnb in Beverley, so there was zero clutter – perfect for photos! After the preparations, everyone headed to Newland Church for a lovely ceremony. Sarah & Tom had even tied the proposal in, and walked down the aisle to November Rain – amazing!
Skidby Millhouse was the venue Sarah & Tom chose for their reception. After falling in love with how modern and airy it was, they felt it would fit in perfectly with their vision. They’d decorated it beautifully too (we loved the sequin tablecloths!) It turned out to be a crazy hot summers day, so the patio area came in pretty handy too. And how could we forget the aircon!?
As lovely as the weather was, it did present us with some challenges when it came to the portraits! The light was really harsh, but we found a lovely little pocket of soft light which we placed Sarah & Tom into, and managed to take a ton of photos of them from different angles! We were really happy with how they turned out, especially since the light was challenging.
Sarah & Tom say that, for them, the entire day was their ‘best bit!’ – and we certainly can’t argue with that! For us, we felt the entire day was perfect, but if we had to choose one highlight? We’ll never forget the heartfelt speech from Sarah’s uncle, who presented to everybody a handmade purse Sarah had given him years and years ago. The whole room was in tears! The gorgeous sunset portraits were pretty special too. In fact, the conditions were so perfect – we had to actually stop ourselves from shooting!
