Rowley Manor Wedding: Glamour & A Cake from Nan

Rowley Manor Wedding: Glamour & A Cake from Nan

Lucy & Lee were brought together by a chance meeting in 2007, when Lucy stopped to talk to an acquaintance in the town centre, and was introduced to his friend – Lee! He waited an entire three years, until Lucy was single, to finally ask her out – and insists it was love at first sight. Lee’s initial plan was to wine and dine Lucy on their first date, but they decided to take a trip to Bridlington for fish & chips instead. They walked, and talked, and Lee managed to earn some serious brownie points by buying a fresh crab each for Lucy’s Mum and Nana! On their first Christmas together, Lee proposed after telling Lucy that she was his soul mate – she blurted out a big “Yes!” before he’d even finished the question! We first met Lucy & Lee when we shot their engagement portraits, they loved the photos so much they even used them for their Save The Dates and wedding stationary! We had such a good time hanging out with them, so we couldn’t wait to photograph their big day.

During the wedding preparations, Lucy & Lee visited Rowley Manor, East Yorkshire. With its large open fireplaces, wing back chairs and four-poster beds, they instantly fell in love with the class and elegance of the venue. The manor was big enough to accommodate all their friends and family, but it wasn’t so large that it lacked a sense of intimacy. Wanting their wedding to be vibrant, yet still classy and glamorous, they decorated the venue with yellow roses and orange gerberas in tall vases and fish bowls. They knew they wanted lots of fresh flowers around – it was a summer wedding after all!

Tom began the day with Lucy, along with her bridesmaids and family, for the most laid back wedding morning ever! Everybody was really calm and it was evident that, with their background in theatre and dance, they were used to getting prepared for big events. There was a really upbeat atmosphere, with everyone in anticipation of the day – it was even more exciting when they could peer out the window and see the guests arriving below! Lucy wore a stunning dress from Andrea Bambridge, and had a gorgeous bouquet from Sarah Slator at The Beverley Flower Company. After everybody was ready, the girls weaved their way down the tree-lined walkway to the church. The ceremony itself was lovely, and ended with Lucy and Lee, the new Mr and Mrs Adams, leaving the church to the “Addams Family” theme tune! After a few group photos, including an attempt at a heart-shaped confetti photo – somewhat hampered by a locked window, it was time for the newlywed’s portraits. We got a few formal ones, but they couldn’t resist getting silly, and we ended up with some lovely, relaxed shots too!

The reception, at Rowley Manor, was amazing, Lucy & Lee had decorated the venue to perfection! An incredible cake, from The Cake Room truly stole the show, it was super vibrant and fit in perfectly with the colour scheme Lucy and Lee had chosen. The whole day was memorable for us, the speeches were particularly hilarious, featuring a moment in which the best men presented a rather questionable canvas with an image from the stag do! The first dance was one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen, with Lucy’s background in dance choreography helping no doubt, the newlyweds danced to a compilation of songs across a number of genres – all merged into one track! The entertainment continued right into the night, with a live band and super crazy dance floor. It was a particularly beautiful evening, and we snapped some portraits of the guys out on the drive, cigars in hand, before taking some lovely evening portraits of Lucy and Lee!
