This is a wedding we’ve been looking forward to sharing for a while! Since this year’s winter seems to be setting in, what better time could there be to reflect upon Helen & Danny’s super cosy day?
After meeting Helen at work some time ago, Danny proposed while at Whitby Abbey, in the company of their lovely daughter Rose – and champagne! We first met Helen and Danny at a Wedding Fayre held at Dunedin Country House a couple of years ago, and quickly discovered that they are genuinely the most laid back couple in the world. We knew we’d get along perfectly straight away, and got to know each other a little better during a super fun engagement shoot. We could tell straightaway Rose was a complete natural in front of the camera, and Helen & Danny weren’t far behind!
They decided to have a retro, vintage style wedding, which still incorporated lots of classic elements. Since it was winter, they also knew they wanted to add some cosiness to the day (and a little bit of faux fur!) to keep that warm atmosphere even in the chilliest of temperatures! They fell in love with the beauty of Dunedin, with it’s homely feel and roaring log fires, it couldn’t be better suited for what they had in mind. With such lovely, friendly staff helping out too, it was perfect.
As we expected, the day itself was super relaxed. While Ant met Danny & the guys at Dunedin, Tom met Helen and the family for preparations at Bows Hair, who did an incredible job. They then headed back to the house to finish up before setting off for Dunedin. Helen & Danny had done a superb job dressing up the rooms, ensuring there was a warm, festive vibe, complete with lots of personal touches! Our favourites were the framed photos of them in Victorian outfits, and the personal cocktail they had on offer – the Topham Tipple, genius! We loved the cool movie references they’d worked into their details, too. Oh – and the amazing vintage rings! There were so many well thought out details to their day, I could honestly just go on, and on, and on!
The ceremony itself was gorgeous. Indeed, it was Helen & Danny’s personal highlight of the day. Saying their vows surrounded by friends and family, they felt, was a lovely and slightly overwhelming experience! We felt that the entire day was incredibly fun and easy-going, and it was truly a pleasure to be a part of it all. Our personal highlights? Danny being asked who he was, and what his part in the wedding was – by his own Great Aunt! We’ll also never forget Danny’s incredible Godfather impression (honestly – Tom’s actually laughing about it, still.) The portraits came out lovely too, with some almost movie-esque haziness as the sun set, super romantic. Rose had a great idea to include some silly ones as well, featuring them all in genuine hysterics – a recurring theme throughout the day!
Check out their lovely day for yourself in this selection of photos, I hope they convince you that winter weddings can be as warm and wonderful as those in the summer! Keep an eye out for a surprise dance, a beautiful bromance between Danny and his best man, Kit, and a superb cake from Cakes by Leni. Enjoy!
